When sewing goes wrong… Vogue 8827

When sewing goes wrong… Vogue 8827

I've had a great sewing day. Got several things cut out, finished a jacket, I'm on a ROLL.

I sat down to sew:

In this lovely fabric I picked up in Chicago a couple years ago:

Got it ALL cut out, marked my notches got ready to sew.

I cut the facing piece on the RIGHT side instead of the wrong side so when I went to put the right sides together (front right and front right facing) it was backwards O_O.

There's no saving this one, that I can think of. I don't have any more fabric (almost didn't have enough as is) so in the trash it goes.

I bet I won't make that mistake again lol

Ok, back to my studio!

Stop it. I can’t accept that. If all you cut wrong were the facings recut them. Even if you have to use different fabric.

So very sorry that happened. Sounds like something I’d do.

use a solid fabric for your facings. don’t trash just yet!

Can you at least get a t-shirt from the pieces?

I have done this, and also just not enough fabric and I have cut from other fabric, put bias (wider one) on or even pieced long facings. There is saving it! Go to it.

First, girl you don’t waste any time. I bought this one too and am just giddy. Can’t you just cut the facing in a contrasting solid?

OH I hate it when that happens!

Cut the facing out in another color. Pretty fabric

What’s your feeling on sizing on this one? I love the look on the model but wonder if it will look a bit “bathrobe-y” on short boxy me. I was thinking a muslin would be a must to test for style.

Soo sorry for you!!! I thought that only happens to me!! Wow, it was great fabric too! Mustn’t stop though…got to move on to the next project!

    That really stinke! Boo hoo!

  • Val/ 05.08.2012Reply

No! No! Recut it as a top. The material is lovely.

If by facing you mean the ruffle just transfer it to the other side…

that fabric would make a really cute halter top…just sayin!

Don’t throw it away! It’s too pretty! Use use a green or light weight knit cut on the bias or crossgrain to about 1.5 inches and bind the edges (I hate facings) You could even cut strips from the facings you cut that didn’t work. Or, just finish the edges (serger?) and top stitch them down. DOn’t waste your pretty fabric and your time!
