Vogue 1282…A Pattern Review

Vogue 1282…A Pattern Review

1282v

Vogue 1282

3 Yards of Fabric

Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, bias, pullover top has draped front neckline with weight, no side seams and stitched hem. Very close-fitting, below waist pull-on skirt has elastic waist with contrast facing, pleats, front extending to side back, no side seams and right side back slit. Self bias binding finishes hem.

Pattern Sizing: 12-20

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, pretty much.

Were the instructions easy to follow? They were typical Vogue instructions. The only thing that confused me was making the tucks on the front of the skirt but that may have been because I was tired.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love cowl neck anything. That is what first got my attention, but I loved the details of the skirt.

Fabric Used: Rayon Jersey for the top & stretch cotton sateen for the skirt.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: This top is WAY too low cut for me, so I sewed up about 3 inches more than what was required. The armscye was WAY low. Like super duper low. I sewed a two inch dart under the arm to fix that. I also cut about 4 inches off the skirt. It hit me a little below my calf and that was not a good look. I'm 5'5 so if you are taller than me, you will probably be fine.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I won't sew this one again. I threw the pattern away once I was done with it. It's OK and I wore it with a cardigan. I've made better cowl neck tops but I did like the way it was constructed. I'd love to see someone else make it.

Conclusion: Just a mediocre pattern for me but this is just MY opinion.

Here are a couple more pictures:
1282vback
I really do like the back of this skirt. I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me.
1282vfront
It was SUPER windy out but you can kinda see the tucks on the front of the skirt and how I sewed up the front of this top.
It got my mojo going so it wasn't a total waste lol.
Toodles!

Wow! You got that pattern made up fast. I like your black and white combination and the seaming on the back of the skirt is awesome.

Adrienne you always have such style! I agree with you that there are better cowl neck top patterns, but the top in that fabric still looks great. I think the black and white combination looks stunning on you.

Oh and I forgot to say that I like the skirt too, and you certainly have the figure for styles like this!

Your work looks great and so happy you saved it because I love your fabric! I just bought this pattern so your review is very timely, thank you! I’ll make sure to note you concerns when making it. (if I do!)

The outfit looks great! I am 5’1″ and always have to cut so many inches off the hem of Vogue patterns!

I’m trying to figure out how to make the pleats and tucks on this skirt. The instructions just aren’t doing it for me. Any tips?

  • Carolyn/ 14.04.2012Reply

Nice work! I’m currently working on the top. I like the look of your skirt. It’s unusual looking and pleats and tucks are the trend right now. All our local newscasters here in Philly are wearing them.
