African Print Faux Wrap Dress

African Print Faux Wrap Dress

Hey guys! You all know I am absolutely smitten with African Print Fabrics so I decided to make an African Print Faux Wrap Dress.

African Print Faux Wrap Dress

I often say that I “absolutely love this” dress or whatever it is that I’ve made but I really do. I don’t make things OR wear things that I’m not in love with, so I have a closet full of clothing that not only have I made with my own two hands, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE.

This dress is a current favorite. I’ve attended about 4 events since I’ve made this and I’ve worn this dress to all of them lol. Thankfully the same people weren’t at the all the events lol. Don’t play like you haven’t done it lol.

This is certainly a statement dress. Most of the pieces that I make I would consider statement pieces. I love when I’m on a shoot and I get questions about what I’m doing…perfect opportunity to give them a business card. I’m walking advertising for my business. LITERALLY lol.

What I love most about this dress is that it has the LOOK of a wrap dress but it’s not.

I kept my accessories very simple as not to compete with the dress.

My shoes I LOVE. I got these from Macy’s in New York a couple years ago, these are still a favorite.

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

McCalls 7081

Pattern Description: Dresses have collar band, close-fitting, front pleated, surplice bodice, waistband, flared skirt cut on crosswise grain and side zipper. A, B: Sleeveless. A, C, D: Narrow hem. B:Contrast collar, waistband and hem band. C: Cap sleeves. C, D: Pointed collar. D:Rolled sleeves, wrong side shows, button tab.

I made view C.

Pattern Sizing: 6-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn’t really use them but they look very straightforward.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved this style dress.

Fabric Used: African Print 100% Cotton

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will make this one again in a solid. I love it and highly recommend it.

Conclusion: Great wardrobe builder.

    HI!
I saw your review on PatternReview, and think your dress is so pretty. What is your favorite source for the African Dutch Wax fabric? I’m pretty sure there are no sources here where I live, maybe in Seattle, but if you have a favorite online source, I’d love your advice.
    Thank you!

Thank you so much! I normally get a TON of them from NY when I’m there. I went the first week of May and stocked up.

Very nice!! I m getting into the african prints as well the more I see them. Since it is the summer time… I am looking for an african print bathing suit which I feel will be really awesome for summer time.
