Women be shopping, women be shopping…
Who said that?? LOL It's SO stuck in my head.
Tony and I took the girls and their friends shopping this weekend. NORMALLY we would do a drop off, but because it's holiday time and folks love to act a fool, we stayed with them.
When I started sewing, I felt like I had to make EVERYTHING. I actually WANTED to make everything. I was so proud of the fact that I KNEW how to sew and could make it look good (even though you could tell that my first items were my FIRST ITEMS lol).
So for a few years, I HATED the mall. Like HATED IT.
Maybe last year or the year before that, I realized I don't HAVE to sew anything. Sometimes it's cheaper to just buy it.
So, I started buying things here and there. Stuff that was super cute and deeply discounted OR simple things like tanks and tshirts.I LOVE the thrift store so I would often find little treasures in there.
This trip to the mall made me realize how much I actually LIKE shopping lol. I had so much fun. I don't think I'll buy things like I did before I started sewing but I'll def get the things that I like lol.
I'm so glad I'm breaking away from feeling like I have to sew every single item I wear!
That's some progress for me lol.
Alright, that's all lol.

I LOVE TO SHOP. The thing that deters me from shopping more is how much they charge for things RTW. I just know I could make it for less, in the exact color, etc. that I want. Now that Raven is here and I have even less time than before, I have to realize that time is also a currency that I have to be protective of so now my quest is to strive for balance and sew the things I want when I have time and buy things I see that I want that I know I won’t have time to sew. One thing I noticed since I started sewing more of my clothes was that I was able to spend more on my shoes and not bust the budget so that has to be a win!

Right now I’m where you were. I want to make everything including underwear!

I’ve never been a fan of clothing shopping so I love that I can make everything. Now that I have 3 little ones and nothing fits, I haven’t really had a choice though so the majority of my wardrobe is not sewn. I think though it is different when you have severe fitting issues (like huge breasts, short torso, extremely long legs, just to name a few).

My mom sewed a lot tried to get me to do it but I only managed to learn how to put a zipper in. She sewed all her church clothes and mines too but she bought everyday clothes.

True indeed. I don’t make everything. (I really don’t understand why folks feel strongly about making their own undergarments) I don’t make anything that’s cheaper to buy than make like t-shirts.

That is definitely progress, but I am right there with you on deeply disliking the mall for shopping.

I dislike the mall but want to look good. I don’t sew; I knit but want to look good.

I do love to sew and crochet. I don’t like mall shopping for clothes. However, I LOVE to go shoe shopping! So since I make most of my clothes, I have more money to buy shoes! (LOL)

Great progress!!! Know exactly what you mean. Sewing is just another means for me to express my creativity but save money. It’s nice to add that with other methods. And, I agree–I LOVE Thrift stores too!

There is something about instant gratification when I find a great value — even if it means I spent a lot of money on something with amazing quality. I also like being able to get the perfect item — whether it be a gift, for me or the house. That’s why I love shopping. Sewing is about perfection and value in a different way. Sewing is supposed to give me a fit that I can’t achieve off the rack. Sometimes, I want to make something less expensive than what stores are charging. I have dreams of one day making garments where money isn’t an object — $35/yd? No problem š

The Mall is kinda like a present to you, Adrienne. You don’t know if you’d like it til you open it. š How about Tony and the other girls? What did they buy?
