Go jump in a lake…or just take a swim.
Swimming is something that I've loved to do as long as I can remember.
I learned to swim as a child but not the traditional way. My dad threw my brother and I in the Warrior River and told us to have fun lol. My mom about stroked out so she made SURE to put us in swim classes after that.
After that incident she wanted to make sure we knew how to swim. We did great in the river. It was natural to both of us, thankfully.
Swimming is my favorite thing. It's my favorite type of exercise. It's the ONE thing that I can do and totally forget about anything and everything that's on my mind. I HAVE to focus on breathing. It's necessary. I listen to my breathing, I count my breaths. The higher my count goes it seems like the better I feel.
Before I realize it, the timer on my watch has gone off and I've reached my goal of 108 laps.
My mind is clear. I feel renewed. I'm focused and ready to face whatever is ahead. I'm also starving at this point lol
I took this picture on 9-3-13. It was the last day that the outdoor pool would be open. That's aways sad because I LOVE swimming so much but the indoor pool is my favorite because it's open all year long 🙂
Other than prayer, this is my favorite thing to do in order to clear my mind.
Before this date, I hadn't been swimming in a few weeks. I've been so busy.
I was walking around the house and I kept saying…I need to go swim. I need to swim. I need to swim. I stopped EVERYTHING. Didn't cook dinner, didn't check that last email, didnt' respond to that last text message.
I took a long swim.
So very glad I did.
What do you do to clear your mind?

I love to swim and when living in Florida had a pool in the backyard and swam laps after a stressful day at work. It does help clear the mind, great exercise and afterwards you do feel refreshed. I need to find me an indoor pool.

I LOVE to swim too! I’ve known how to swim since I was a kid, but I recently took lessons again to get better technique. It was so satisfying to feel myself move through the water faster and get that breathing smooth.
For the last month though I’ve been running, and I love it now too because there are no opening hours, I don’t need to go anywhere, no equipment needed. I just put on my running shoes and go.

You are speaking to me about swimming, relaxing, and de-stressing. Closed my outdoor pool after Labor Day. Sewing is relaxing but swimming can take me to another level. Your post reminds me to not take my indoor pool for granted. I’m going swimming, and then I’ll sew.

Swimming isn’t a relaxing activity for me because I’m still learning so I tense up sometimes, but I love it anyway. Like you, I feel great (and super hungry) when I’m done. To clear my mind, after I pray, I do mindless activities (tweet, pinterest, sleep, read, etc).

Indoor pools are wonderful lol. If I lived in Flordia I’d be at the beach lol

I run when I have to lol. I would rather walk. Running is hard on my knees.

^^^^ See above comment lol

Sewing does it for me too, more so when it’s something mindless lol

I remember when you were afraid 🙂
So proud of you 🙂

I sleep, when I’m stressed. Sleep when I am happy. Sleep because it’s a good day too sleep. Sleep when I try to avoid doing my chores, make appointments, go to my family functions. I’m surprised I’m not sleeping now.

Sleep is also good lol

108 Laps! How long is the pool? I swim about 20 laps but that’s a 50 metre (Olympic size pool). I love swimming and ditto it is the only thing that relaxes me other than yoga but swimming lets me be in my head.

I think every child should learnt to swim….it always amazes me how many people don’t know.
