When Inspiration Hits | McCall’s 6957

Hey guys! I hope you all had a great weekend!

I know I did. We celebrated Tony’s birthday in Atlanta and truly enjoyed ourselves.

I had a private event to attend at Neiman Marcus while we were there and it was simply amazing. I left encouraged, refreshed and ready to continue to grow Adrienne’s Essentials.

Of COURSE I had to wear one of my own creations.

I saw this dress on Pinterest

(I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, ALL great things being with pinterest lol) and had to have my own version. I picked this picture apart. I thought the drape was on the side but the wind is blowing in this picture.

I love the way my version came out.  It was SUPPOSED to be a dress but I clearly didn’t measure correctly lol. I love it as a top. I can also belt it and wear it with a pencil skirt. #winning.

I wanted the focus to be on the top so I wore my white skinnies and my pumps that I got a few weeks back. You should have seen me matching up fabric with my shoes lol. I always pick my fabric based on what shoes I want to wear lol.

I think I am going to make this again in a different fabric so I can really make mine look just like the inspiration picture.

Accessories: Adrienne’s Essentials & Forever 21

Shoes: Steve Madden

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

Pattern Description: : Pullover dresses (close-fitting through bust) have narrow hem finish and hemline variations. B: shaped hemline, wrong side shows. D: belt.

Pattern Sizing: 6-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? kinda/sorta

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn’t even look at them.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked that this was a good starting point for my inspiration dress .

Fabric Used: ITY from my stash.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I started with view B and  shortened the front and back by 7 inches. I wanted it more full and flowy so I slash/spread it in four places on the front up to the waist. I added  8 inches in width to the front piece and 8 inches in width to the back for a total of 16 inches for the front and back.  I did french seams on the back since they could be seen and just folded the hem under 1/4 inch then folded it again so the hem was finished. Oh, I also raised the neckline 3 inches.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I want to make this one again using the same modifications only a little longer so I can wear it as a dress.

Conclusion: Great pattern for me. I think it’s a pretty good basic. Pick it up if you like this style dress.

I LOVE this look! I have a similar top but its a sheer print and I love it. We won’t talk about what I paid for it. lol

Between you and MimiG, I may quit peeking at my sewing machine and actually use it! lol

    P.S.
I love gadgets and gizmos too but my sewing machine has me totally intimidated.
