Tailored in Glacier Gray

Tailored in Glacier Gray

Nothing like starting the new year off in a perfectly tailored glacier gray dress.

I absolutely love the gift that God has given me and I’m blessed that I can share that gift with you.

I fell in love with the color Gray last year and it has clearly carried over into this year. Good thing Glacier Gray is on trend for Spring 2015.

One thing I love about this dress is I know I can wear this all year long. This color is not only great for spring but will also transition well into the fall/winter months.

I fell in love with this fabric. I’ve had it a couple of years. I take “field trips” with my mom often to fabric stores across the states and there was NO way I could leave this one.

I kept my accessories simple, yet sparkly 🙂  I love my metallic nail polish. I have it in about 5 colors lol. I don’t really get into matchy/matchy so I decided on this stark white purse. Great contrast for my gray suede shoes.

It’s always hilarious when we are taking pictures and someone comes up to ask who I am and what we are doing lol. I always give them a business card  and of course my lovely daughter who doubles as my photographer captured it lol.

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

Butterick 5952

Pattern Description: Lined dress has fitted bodice, waistband, semi-fitted skirt and back zipper.

Pattern Sizing: 8-16

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were great.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved that this was a simple dress. Perfect for showcasing gorgeous fabric.

Fabric Used: Silk Cotton from Textile Fabrics in Nashville

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 5 inches to the length. I normally don’t add that much length, but this dress is SHORT. I’m ONLY 5’5 1/2 and had I not added the length it would have been a mini dress. I don’t know if I got a bad pattern or what lol.

My fabric is a mirrored print. It’s simply gorgeous but took some real thought as far as placement goes. I knew I didn’t want ANY print across the front/top of my dress. NOTHING like having a print in the “wrong area”. I also had to be aware of where the print would hit on my backside. I took my time and traced the pattern on the fabric so I could see exactly where the print would be. Once I was happy with it I cut it out in single layers. Took forever but WELL worth the time.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I doubt if I will make this one again but I do recommend it.

Conclusion: Great pattern. Perfect for wardrobe building.

    Hi Adrienne,

The dress is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, the fabric really made the dress stand out. When I looked at the pattern, I would have passed it by. Seeing your dress has made me start thinking outside of the box, i.e., look at other possibilities for a garment. That dress would be PERFECT to wear to a wedding.
