The Statement Suit :: All Yellow Vogue 1435

When Vogue released their spring patterns my JAW DROPPED when I saw Vogue 1435.

Vogue 1435

It took me TWO hours to get my order in on the last day of the sale which was also the FIRST day the new patterns were released.

Before I even received the notification that my patterns shipped I was already going through my stash looking for the perfect fabric.

I have this printed and pinned in the middle of my fabric shelves so I can always be reminded of what’s current when it comes to the “it” colors for the season.

Pantone Spring 2015

I use this as a GUIDE, I’m not married to it. When it’s all said and done I’ll truly use what I like.

I was intrigued by the “custard” so I searched and found “my” perfect shade of yellow.

I kept my accessories very simple. I wore a single sparkly cross bracelet and diamond studs. That’s it. Simple can go a LONG way.

For those of you that sew, here is a review:

Vogue 1435

Pattern Description:  Unlined jacket has collar, lined yoke back, back seam detail, flat-fell seams, shaped hemline, wrong side shows, narrow hem, and front button & loop closing. Topstitching. Lined dress has princess seams, left side front slit and invisible zipper. A and B: Loose-fitting.

Pattern Sizing: 6-14 I cut the 14 and made some modifications.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? These instructions are very well written.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I fell in LOVE with this style. It’s so “me”.

Fabric Used: Neoprene

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The jacket I didn’t make ANY changes, however if you are using a knit be careful with your interfacing. I used a neoprene so I made sure to test my interfacing first.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE invest in GOOD interfacing. It makes a HUGE difference. I tried two different weights of proweft interfacings and then a sew in. The sew in did the best IMO on MY fabric, but I used interfacing on BOTH sides of my collar and not on just one. When I used it on one side it was too heavy so I added it to both sides so the weight would be evenly distributed. Again, I did this on  TEST fabric  first. I did not like the way the topstitching looked on my collar so I left it off.

The dress is indeed loose fitting. I cut the 14 and basted it all together to adjust the fit. I took in 2.5 inches off each side seam and 1.5 inch out of the center back seam. I added 3 inches of length and omitted the split. I knew I was wearing this dress to church so I didn’t want it too tight OR too short. It stopped right above my knee and just skimmed my body. With this fabric I didn’t want it to look painted on. Not for church anyway 🙂

Also something I didn’t notice until I actually wore it, the loop is HUGE. I ended up wrapping it around my button so it wouldn’t gap open. When I tried everything on, I didn’t button it so I honestly didn’t know until I was getting ready to walk out of the house.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I HIGHLY recommend this pattern. The directions are great and it really went together well.

Conclusion: Excellent pattern. This is one of my favorites from the new Vogue collection. GET IT. If you can find it in stock lol.

Absolutely gorgeous! Just goes to show that a pattern photo only presents an idea. The final look is strictly up to the sewist. Like they say on American Idol, ‘you made it your own’.

Beautiful! Wanted to ask, did you line the suit?

    • AEadmin/ 03.02.2015Reply

Thank you! No I actually didn’t. My fabric was hefty enough that I didn’t really need it I did wear a slip. The jacket is unlined except for one portion on the back yoke.
