Simplicity 2253

Simplicity 2253

  2253s Simplicity 2253

Pattern Description:
Misses' evening dress in two lengths by Jessica McClintock.

Pattern Sizing:
12-20.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow?

The directions were fine. There was a previous review here that talked about how the directions jumped all over the place, so I knew to look for it. I'm glad lol, or I would have been upset lol.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The shoulder treatment attracted me to the pattern the first day I saw it!

Fabric Used: Linen

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None really. I didn't like the way the pleats on the shoulder looked when following the directions so I just pleated it the way I wanted to.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I won't sew this one again at all. I only need one of these in my wardrobe.

Conclusion: Great dress. Hubby loved it and that made it a winner! LOL

Here are some additional pics:
2253s front
I hate that you really can't see the lines in this dress when you are wearing it. Maybe it was my fabric choice.
2243s back
The lines in the back are straight across.
2253s inside
The inside bodice is lined. I ran out of fabric (because this was for something else lol) and used white linen lol.
2253s front shoulder
2253s back shoulder
2253s side shoulder
I *love* the shoulder.
Oh and a shoe pic lol.

(don't know why my polish looks bad. It doesn't look like that right now **looks down at toes**)
I took this for someone who wanted a closeup lol. These were SUPPOSED to be my bday shoes, but I ended up wearing something else lol. Glad to break them in tonight lol
There ya have it! Good to have a successful project after one that failed lol.

One of the things I love most about sewing is never having to say I can’t get a pair of shoes because I having nothing to wear them with. You look fabulous!

Amazing dress. You look like a million dollars in that dress. I love the pattern. Bought it for the stash just to have it needed someday. Homerun.

cute dress.. love the shoes *dies* we wear the same size right?

  • Victoria/ 21.02.2011Reply

Love this Lady! You look phenomenal!!! That shade of pink is perfect and the shoes set it off. I love the shoulder treatment as well. I also have the same concern about the bodice design not being very visible when I make it as a formal gown. Either way–this dress still looks gorgeous!!!

  • robin/ 23.02.2011Reply

LOVE the dress! I searched for a review just now on PR and was tickled to see that you had already made it, as I want to make it in a satin or taffeta for that Easter Seals Gala we go to every year (April 9th!) I’m thinking maybe a shinier fabric may show the seaming on the bodice more. Did it take a long time to make?

  • Cynthia/ 24.02.2011Reply

Wow! Your dress looks so pretty, and you did such a good job on it.

  • Nik/ 24.02.2011Reply

  • blanket/ 16.03.2011Reply

Wooow… less than 100 comments!!… I have to take advantage of this and write my comment on your blog… ok… what should I write??… mmm, I don’t think my criminal history would help me gain your sympathy, uh?? haha… anyway, I just want you to know that I believe you’re a fabulous blogger and writer… so, thanks for that.. now I know I’m not a robot. well, this post is getting too long to be read, so i’ll stop now…

How tall are you. I am making this pattern for a petite lady who is 5’2″ and I’m having a hard time figuring out how much to reduce the width of each bodice piece. This fits you perfectly and knowing how tall you are might help me. Thanks! ~ Charity

    Hello! Beautiful sewing job!
Can you tell me roughly how long it took to make this pattern? I’d really like to make the long version but only have a few days and some evenings to devote to it before the event takes place.
Thank you for your help, Lord bless! Caeti
