Simplicity 1873…A Review

IMG_2523-001
So I was doing my daily blog reading and ran across this dress on NuSophisticate and was INSTANTLY in love. I clicked the link to the original dress on jcrew.com and this can NOT be the same dress!
ServerWell I'll be. It IS the same dress. HATE it on this model.

Well NOW, I want one too. Bow belt and all lol. Enter in Simplicity 1873

1873

1873s

Pattern Description: Misses' & Miss petite dress in two lengths with pleated skirt and loose fitting cape jacket. Cynthia Rowley Collection.

Pattern Sizing: 14-22

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? SUPER EASY!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about this pattern. It was really close to my inspiration dress.

Fabric Used: Linen polka dot (the dots are raised) that my mom gave me lol.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made view c without the tabs on the waist.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? This dress is already being made again. I LOVE this style on me. LOVE IT!!! My oldest daughter has also put her request in lol.

Conclusion: This dress is SUPERB! If you like this style GET THIS PATTERN.

 Here are some additional pictures:

I really didn't have enough fabric for this dress. The polka dots didn't extend all the way to the selvage of the fabric so I ended up positioning the center back on the white part all the way down the dress. It works for me lol.

This dress is SO twirl worthy and I LOVE my magenta shoes!

I told Tony I felt so pretty! LOL. I LOVE this dress. Like seriously. LOVE IT. You will see it again soon. That is all. lol

Well done on this dress, especially making it work with the fabric. I love how you have styled it with the beautiful red pumps.

Love it. The white down the center back is a nice “design detail”.

You look amazing in that dress. You should make more of them.

You did SO good with this dress! I love it with your accessories, and it definitely looked better on you than on the model!

Great interpratation of the NuSophisticate version. I would have never taken a second look at it on the J.Crew site. That shows that sometimes you have to see the garment on real people not models.

I love the dress!! Keep on twirling !!

  • Nik/ 07.05.2012Reply

You had me at “twirl worthy”. That is the effect I’m going for in my summer dresses this year. I’m going to check to see if this pattern comes in my size.

  • Patty/ 29.05.2012Reply

So Cute!!! My 20-something daughter has asked me to make her a light blue/white polka dot dress…..everyone loves those dots! I can see that I need this pattern.

  • Carol/ 08.06.2012Reply

I want a polka dot dress too! I have this pattern as well but I have a yellow brocade to use! Lovely! Can’t wait! Maybe this will help my mojo!!

  • Melizza/ 12.06.2012Reply

Hello! I found your blog through Shawnta’s and had to leave a message. What a gorgeous dress! It looks great with your magenta shoes. Twirl on!

  • Marlene/ 21.06.2012Reply

I love the white down the center back. I need to think “out of the box” more! Very clever! You make this pattern look so much better.

  • Lora/ 22.06.2012Reply

Did you lengthen the skirt? It looks much shorter on the envelope pic. I have this pattern on my list for the next $0.99 sale.

  • Bec Clarke/ 02.11.2012Reply

Thank you for this great review, I have this pattern and want to make it, now I have the fabric and am going t o make it.
