Saint Laurent Inspired Dress | Vogue 9021
When I saw this Saint Laurent Dress on Net-A-Porter I fell in LOVE. When I saw the Vogue 9021 pattern I KNEW I was going to make it.
Saint Laurent Kimono Style Dress
I absolutely LOVE this dress! I almost made it in a “color” but decided to go with black like the inspiration dress.
My photographer had a hard time getting good pictures of the black. She needs a little more training with all black and all white outfits lol. She’s doing an outstanding job 🙂
I kept my accessories very simple and decided to go with these fabulous polka dot shoes that you will see a LOT of because I purchased two color ways lol.
I’m going to post this picture anyway to show you something, see those lines across my booty? I didn’t see those when I tried the dress on. I actually didn’t notice them until I got home and saw these pictures. I ended up adjusting the darts so they would lay down on my booty. Next time I put it on I’ll show a better pictures. I also purchased a second mirror so I can ALWAYS have a back view lol. Lesson learned.
For those of you who sew, here is a review:
Pattern Description: Fitted dress has front and back extending into sleeves, low armholes, back zipper and hemline slit.
Pattern Sizing: 6-14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy. The armhole facing really confused me at first. I think it was because I was tired. Once I walked away and came back it made sense.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that this is the EXACT version to the Saint Laurent Dress
Fabric Used: It’s some type of poly blend I picked up from Metro Textiles in NY last year.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a size 10 on top and 12 on bottom. The top fits PERFECTLY the skirt portion was a TAD bit loose so I shaved about 3 inches off EACH side seam and tapered it towards the knee. Gave me a MUCH better look. I also ended up having to adjust the darts so they would lay across my booty.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I doubt if I make this again but I plan on wearing it often.
Conclusion: Great pattern, exactly like the inspiration.
That’s all I have for today! See y’all soon!

I love this dress. When you say you moved the darts, what do you mean? I am still learning how to do them neatly.

Hi. Never been here before. Was looking for a pattern review of this design and found your site. Comment and question. Comment: The shoes really make that outfit. Yeah! Question: What is going on with those armholes? I don’t want my entire midriff exposed through large armholes and the BMV website describes it as a “fitted” dress, but then doesn’t really show the pattern as clearly as I would like… and I do appreciate the Saint Laurent Net A Porter insight. 🙂

Hi Marti and welcome!
The armholes are very low. I wore a tank under my dress. I didn’t want to raise it any because it will mess with the drape of the sleeve. Hope that helps!
