Oscar de la Renta Inspired Dress

Oscar de la Renta Inspired Dress

I have a few favorite designers. Oscar de la Renta is one of my favorites. I have loved this dress  for a LONG time. I knew one day I would make my own version.

Oscar de la Renta Asymmetrical Dress

Oscar de la Renta Asymmetrical Dress Can you see why I fell in love!? My dress was INSPIRED by this one.

For kicks and giggles I looked up the definition of Inspiration- the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Yep that about sums it up lol.

My dress isn’t an exact copy but I certainly got the look I was going for.

I love the movement of this dress. It was very windy when I took pictures and I did NOT complain lol.  If you follow me on Instagram, I’ve started including a video with my picture so you can see my fashion in action. This video shows why I ALWAYS wear a slip. My dress is FULLY lined and I still put one on lol. Check it out.

I am still crushing hard on mixed prints so I pulled out my clutch from The Mint Julep Boutique again. It’s perfect.

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

Butterick 5322

Pattern Description: Lined dresses A, B, C, D, E, below mid-knee, have fitted bodice with neckline variations, flared skirt and back zipper closure. A, B, C: princess seams. D, E: mock wrapped bodice. E: collar and elbow length sleeve. C, D, E: self-fabric sash. A, B: ribbon. B: purchased flower.

Pattern Sizing: 8-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  No

Were the instructions easy to follow? Didn’t use them.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It gave me a bodice similar to my inspiration piece.

Fabric Used: Silk Crepe

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I used the bodice from view c. I  underlined the bodice and used satin bias tape on the edges so that it would have the look of my inspiration dress.

I draped the skirt. I didn’t want it TOO dramatic so I made it work for my body.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I won’t make this one again but I sure do love it. This pattern is a great basic to have in your collection if you can find it. It’s now OOP.

Conclusion: This pattern gave me the basic bodice that I was looking for. I enjoyed making this one my own.

Be Inspired. Live Inspired. Be an Essential Woman.

Oscar de la Renta is one of my favorite designers next to Carolina Herrera. I just love this look on you, very soft, feminine and lady like. Great job! BTW, your photographer did a fabulous job on these pics.
