Off The Shoulder Peplum | Instagram Inspired!

Off The Shoulder Peplum | Instagram Inspired!

Hey you guys!!!
I’m SO glad it is almost the weekend. This has been such an emotional week. My next post will be graphic but tell you all about it. In the mean time, how about something pretty?! lol

If all great ideas begin with Pinterest, then Inspiration comes from Instagram lol

One day last week I saw this picture from one of my favorite IG people @shadesnstyles

Pic 27(Photo Credit)

And INSTANTLY fell in love with her top. I mean what’s NOT to love!

So of course, I made my own:

adriennesessentials peplum top9I had a wedding to attend this past Saturday and KNEW this would be perfect paired with my favorite coral sequin skirt.

adriennesessentials peplum top3This might be my most favorite top I’ve made (to-date) lol and y’all ALREADY know I have it cut out in a print lol.

Shoes: Unsure VERY OLD

Accessories: Forever21

Top:DIY

Skirt: ASOS

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

Butterick 4685 View C

Pattern Description: Pullover top has sleeve and neckline variationsPattern Sizing: 8-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Not at all.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions for the top on the pattern envelope are very easy to follow but I didn’t use them. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved that this pattern gave me the starting point for my top.

Fabric Used: ponte roma

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: To get the look I wanted I made several changes. I cut two sizes smaller because this is meant to be a roomy top, I needed to work with some negative ease (not too much, I didn’t want it TOO fitted). I made the sleeves 3/4 length and cut the bodice three inches above the waist marking. I made my own peplum from THIS TUTORIAL .

Once I sewed the top pieces together I tried it on inside out and had my daughter pin fit me so I could get the exact fit that I wanted. I just wanted it to fall over my curves, NOT squeeze them to death lol so that was how I got it to fit exactly how I wanted.
Once we had the pins in, I hand basted it down and removed the pins so I could machine baste it to test the fit. It was perfect so I moved on.
Instead of adding the ruffle at the top I sewed it down 5/8″ to make a casing and inserted my elastic.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I plan on making this again with the same modifications in a print. Conclusion: This pattern was a great starting point for the top that I wanted.

I love it–the skirt as well. Coral is on my fave color list. Another hit, Adrienne!

I absolutely envy the fact that you can sew. If I could, I would sew every single thing…..ok, maybe not everything but ALOT of things. So humbled by the fact that I was able to inspire you…..you of all people simply because I adore everything about you but mostly your love for God.

Thank you again and keep those outfits coming…
