Flirty Leather Skirt | McCall’s 6842

Flirty Leather Skirt

Flirty Leather Skirt | McCall’s 6842

I’ve been wanting a flirty leather skirt for a while and McCall’s 6842 was perfect for this project.

Flirty Leather Skirt

You can’t go wrong with this type of skirt. It’s fun and cute, pretty much universally flattering and perfect for twirling!

I knew I would be wearing my Hanes Silk Reflections Square Dot Tights so I wanted to play with patterns a bit. I love that the dots are raised and not flat. I mentioned HERE that I wear pantyhose with every skirt /dress that I wear and I LOVE this brand. They don’t snag easily so they last a long time.

I picked up this stripe shirt while I was in Hawaii from boutique there and I knew it would be the perfect compliment to my tights. That’s MY way of combining stripes and dots.

I wanted to sparkle, so I pulled out this statement necklace, simple studs and black and white bracelet. I added this clutch for a pop of color. Can’t be without my color lol

I’m also wearing my fitbit and that will forever be a part of my ensemble, but I’ll talk about that later.

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

McCall’s 6842
Pattern Description: Skirts have contour waist, yoke variation, back zipper, and narrow hem.

Pattern Sizing:  6-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? No.

Were the instructions easy to follow? I lost them before I got started.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved that it was a circle skirt. I did NOT like the wide yoke/ waistband on me.

Fabric Used: Faux Leather

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made this skirt straight out of the envelope and hated it. I did NOT like the yoke/waistband. It’s more like a dropped waist look and that doesn’t work well for my shape. I took it apart and kept the front the way it was. I cut the yoke in half and sewed  it down. When I drafted the back, I made it slightly longer so you couldn’t see my behind when the wind blows lol.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I won’t make this again but if you like this style go for it!

Conclusion:  This is a great pattern if you like this style skirt. I don’t care for the yoke so I won’t be making it again but I did like it once I finished my modifications.

Love this! I really your mixture of dots with the stripes….not overwhelming as some of the pattern mixing that I see.

You look fabulous! I would have never thought to use leather in a twirling skirt. I now wear a Fitbit too. Those twirls will count as steps!
