Butterick 5490

Butterick 5490

5490b Butterick 5490

Pattern Description: Fitted, pleated dresses A, B, above mid-knee or evening length, have lined bodice and midriff, flared skirt and back zipper.

Pattern Sizing: 8-14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy. I think I only glanced at them when I started.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved all the pleats!

Fabric Used: Cotton

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made it a little longer than the short version. I think I added two inches.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I doubt if I will sew this again, but if you like this style I do recommend it.

Conclusion: Great patter. Another simple summer dress.

Here are some additional pictures:

Ugh, I need a new dressform lol. Don't laugh at her. She has some issues lol
Pleats
I love the pleats!
Zipper
Funny thing about that zipper. I ALWAYS keep zippers here. ALWAYS, and uhhh well I didn't have a white one long enough so I used  a black one. Great thing about invisible zippers….you can't see anything except the tab…IF you put it in right lol. Mine was in the right way lol
Accessories
I kept my accessories simple since my necklace was bold.

Having fun with the director of photography Jaelyn lol
Y'all have a good one!

This is a terrific dress. I like the style detail of the black zipper tab.

  • Myra/ 15.07.2011Reply

What a cute dress on you!!! The contrast of the black zipper tab is perfect!! I’ve had that happen to me before too but it didn’t turn out as nice as yours!! LOL! Really, cute fabric too!

  • Lori/ 15.07.2011Reply

Beautiful dress, the fabric is so pretty. You are so right about invisible zippers. I did read you can paint the tab with fingernail polish if you want it to match.

You look so pretty. That dress is pure perfection!

What a great dress. Your satisfaction with it really shows in your photos. How terrific to sew a garment that you are so happy with. This looks like a keeper of a pattern. Way to go!

  • Kimberly/ 15.07.2011Reply

I’ve said it before on something previously posted, but I think you look so glamorous in white.

  • Syl/ 15.07.2011Reply

I like the dress. It fits so well on you. Good choice of accessories. I have never bought a dress form because 1. They’re too expensive 2. They are not made for full figured people who are not proportionate in every area. 3. I haven’t sewn garments in over 15 years.

  • Cynthia/ 15.07.2011Reply

    Love, love, love, just beautiful!!

  • Jackie/ 15.07.2011Reply

  • Jenny/ 15.07.2011Reply

    Great summer dress!

  • Mimi/ 16.07.2011Reply

so pretty! I love your comment about the invisible zipper, specifically. That’s my philosophy, too. If it is truly invisible, and installed correctly, what difference does it make what color it is? (Unless you mind the pull)

  • Kim/ 17.07.2011Reply

I love it!! I am seriously thinking about getting a sewing machine and learning how to sew.

  • Katie Parrish/ 17.07.2011Reply

Like Kimberly said above, you look gorgeous in white. That is one of the prettiest one I have seen in awhile. You do such good work.

  • Heather/ 18.07.2011Reply

    LOVE this dress!
Remember the old trick, you can paint the zipper tab with nail polish.
    Again, lovely dress.

  • Tiffany/ 18.07.2011Reply

just wanted to come to your site and see what you were up to…love the fashions. How are you and your family?

  • Shay Winbush/ 18.07.2011Reply

The dress turned out great Adrienne! Honey, I bought fell out when you said your dressform had issues. Girl, I need to email you a pic of mines. It was in a horrible “accident” with my son and has been struggling every since.

  • Nerd Girl/ 19.07.2011Reply

Cute dress. I always say I’m going to wear more dresses after I visit your site but never do. Whomp whomp.

  • Bunny/ 19.07.2011Reply

  • catering los angeles/ 20.07.2011Reply

Cool and beautiful dress, the fabric is so pretty. You are right about invisible zippers. This is very great to describe about dresses and personal life.

  • Lisa @celebrate CREATIVITY/ 20.07.2011Reply

Beautiful dress. Love the soft folds, they’re perfect.
I may have said this before but it bears repeating again… when I grow up, I want to sew like you-lol.
    Take care

  • Syl/ 20.07.2011Reply

NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS POST
Finally saw “Due Date”. Too funny. Nobody can be that stupid. Wait a minute, Yes, they can.
Glad to see Robert Downy Jr. is staying sober
Jamie Foxx (fanning myself)If only he’d taken off his shirt.

  • NewRibena/ 21.07.2011Reply

Just saying hello…found your blog a few days ago and you have inspired me to start sewing again after many years of not even touching a machine. Thanks for sharing.

  • Shannon/ 21.07.2011Reply

  • aminat/ 21.07.2011Reply

    You look gorgeous….Love everything

Beautiful dress! If you have white nail polish you can paint the zipper pull white to match! Sue

  • Angie/ 23.07.2011Reply

    I love the fabric choice.
Did you get it recently from Joann’s?
You did a great job on the dress.
If you are worried about the zipper tag, why not paint it.
I think the hobby paint is better than fingernail polish.
    More permanent.

  • Tany/ 23.07.2011Reply

That’s a gorgeous LWD! Love that necklace! Gold and white is a great combo IMO, thumbs up for the styling too!
