Alabama A&M University Dancin’ Divas
Hey Y’all!
I hope you guys are having a good week. I can’t BELIEVE it’s already Wednesday. Time is just zooming by!
Last year I’ve mentioned OFTEN that my MOST proud moment was making the color guard uniforms for Alabama A&M University (AAMU) and it truly was.
I’ve had so many proud moments already this year I don’t even know if I can categorize this one lol.
Around 5 or so years ago when I started getting “good” at sewing we were at AAMU (like we are each and every year) for Homecoming and I was playing around with Kayla (because she LOVES the Divas) and I told her, “I can make what they have on.” I went on and on about what I could see and what I could do better than what they had currently. Just kinda dissecting what they had on and making it better in my head.
I was just PLAYING around and that actually came true this past weekend.
When I made the color guard uniforms last year the conversation that I had with Kayla came back to me. If y’all know me I don’t remember ANYTHING but I remembered this. And so did Kayla.
I’ve been talking a while about being intentional with what you say. I took a year and was VERY intentional with my words. This is why. THIS situation was one of the ones that kinda proved to me that your words have power. I ALREADY know this but you know how we can be sometimes lol
Talk about a MAJOR accomplishment.
When I delivered the uniforms I took my sewing machine, the patterns that I made, extra fabric and plenty of needles. You NEVER know. I was prepared to make any adjustments while I was in Huntsville. When I leave my items I want to know that they are perfect and ready to be worn.
I was happy that the only adjustments I had to make were minor ones. The neck straps were too long and some of the bra cups were a little big on the side seam. There was a big oopsie with the uniforms last year that I saw up close and personal because I was on the field watching the color guard during half time. Like I said, I dissect clothing to see what I can do differently or better and I saw a few things with those uniforms that I would do different. What happened on the field last year would NOT happen in my uniforms.
I added extra coverage on the booty and the boobs so there would not be any wardrobe malfunctions.
Once I finished the adjustments, the girls were happy and so was I. I left and went home. Exhausted lol.
When I saw them on game day my heart swelled with pride.
Before “WE” changed into “OUR” uniforms lol
I helped them get dressed before halftime. What I’m doing here is pinning the top of the stockings to the bottoms.
Beaming with pride. I’m so thankful for the gift that God has giving me.
There is something about working extremely hard on something and then seeing it right before your eyes. Completed and beautiful.
I have only missed ONE Homecoming at AAMU. That was the year I had Kayla. She was 3 days old and I couldn’t go. This is the ONLY other time that I can remember not even seeing the half time show. I watched the girls the entire time. I almost cried. Like real tears but I held it together.

Thankful for what God is doing and there is so much more to come 🙂
