African Print Pleated Skirt | Butterick 5929
My friend Serenity23 and I are in love with african prints. I showed her the fabrics I had in my stash months ago and she loved all my prints. She showed me the skirts and dresses that she had purchased and I loved all her stuff lol. We can go back and forth all day talking about fashion lol.
I made my skirt a while back and I’m JUST now wearing it lol
I can easily see myself living in these skirts this summer. Y’all know I love skirts and dresses anyway so this will be a no-brainer.
My skirt was my focal piece so I kept everything else really simple and wore my favorite shoes. Out of ALL the shoes I have (and I have a lot)
these have to be my favorites. I am constantly grabbing them. They are the perfect nude for my skin-tone.
A closeup of my accessories. I actually put all my clothes together like this the day before lol. It makes me happy when I walk past them and I see them waiting on me to wear the next day lol. Silly, I know.
Skirt:DIY Butterick 5929
Accessories: Forever 21
T-Shirt: Target (BEST T-SHIRT EVER)
For those of you who sew, here is a review:
Pattern Description: Skirt is semi-fitted through hips. A: side front pockets. B: waistband. A and B: pleats and back zipper. C and D: side front and side back seams, side zipper, and narrow hem. I made view B
Pattern Sizing: 6-14
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? I only looked at them for the purpose of this review. They look very well written and easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved the look of the pleated skirt.
Fabric Used: African Wax Cotton
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made the waistband four inches wide.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely make this one again in several colors. I recommend it if you like this style.
Conclusion: Great pattern for adding separates to my wardrobe.

No it is not silly to pull together your outfit the day before. I have an aunt that does the same thing. And I have seen it on different shows. The outfit is comfortable and the skirt is in a very pretty print.

I love love your oufits. Just gorgeous and stylish! Thank for showing those of us that desire conservative dressing that we can have beautiful style. A friend and I were having a discussion on dressing styles for church and how difficult it was getting to style ourselves and especially our daughters. Thank you for showing us that we have many stylish options, more than the stores are offering.

Thanks so much Tindi. That means a ton to me. I try to teach my girls (18,14) that you don’t have to be half naked to look cute. It doesn’t have to be too short and way too tight to look good. You can still be modest and fashionable.

Also, where do you get your African print fabric?
AEadmin/ 17.06.2014
I shop all over so it really depends. I THINK this was part of a haul I got while I was in NY last year.
AEadmin/ 23.06.2014
Thank you! I got this from Textile Fabrics in Nashville.

You look fabulous! Where would you go to buy fabric for dressses and skirts on line, since there are only quilting stores in my area?
AEadmin/ 23.06.2014
Thank you! I order online sometimes. Fabric.com and fabricmartfabrics.com are great places.

The print in your skirt is everything! Love how you styled it with the bold yellow crop. Fabulous doll.
