AAMU Colorguard Uniforms | Magic City Classic 2014

AAMU Colorguard Uniforms | Magic City Classic 2014

I was blessed to be able to make the AAMU Color-guard Uniforms for the Magic City Classic 2014.

This process started back in April when I received an email inquiring about the services of Adrienne’s Essentials to make the AAMU Color guard uniforms for magic city classic 2014. To say I was excited is an UNDERSTATEMENT. (If you have followed me for ANY length of time you know I absolutely LOVE Alabama A & M University, so this was an honor for me)

I met with the color-guard coordinator in May and showed her a few of the ideas that I had and I was giddy when she picked my favorite design and my favorite fabrics.

When I got their measurements it was a flawless experience and went so smoothly.  They already knew what to expect when I arrived and they were all ready. They were a joy to work with.

Once I got everyones measurements placed the order for my fabric and PATIENTLY *insert sarcasm here* waited for it to arrive.

When it came I was so happy! I got my UPS man to pose for a picture. It was after all a GREAT moment lol.

Cutting this fabric was the single most daunting thing I’ve ever done in my life lol. If you have EVER worked with sequin you know what I’m talking about.  My parents surprised me with an electric rotary cutter (If you follow me on Instagram you have seen it in action) and it made my life so much easier.  I ADORE that thing.

Because I had so many uniforms to make I had to come up with a system to keep them all organized. Once they were cut I placed the fabric for the leggings and the tops in a zip lock bag with the name of the girl who would wear it.

I thank God that I had enough sense to pray before I started this. He let me know exactly what to do and how to do it so that I could stay organized with such a big project. Here are a couple of detail pics:

I was so nervous when it was time to deliver them.  Only the head color guard and the coordinator knew what they looked like. NONE of the girls even had a clue about the color or anything.  I just wanted them to love them. I packed my truck and was ready to go…but not before a few pictures:

Kayla went with me to help and I’m SO glad. She was a great second set of hands.

I ended up having some trouble with my truck so I waited on Tony to bring me his car and we switched out all that pretty neat packing up and put it ALL in his car lol

I finally made it to the girls (ON TIME, EVEN WITH MY CAR TROUBLE lol) and they started trying things on.

They were overjoyed. It made my heart melt because I put so much of myself into every garment that I make.

I did end up having to take in a couple of the tops due to some circumstances beyond my control but I was ready. I took my travel machine with me and did it on the spot so when the girls went back to their dorm room and I left Huntsville going back to Birmingham EVERYTHING was complete.

Magic City Classic 2014 finally came. My parents came to show their support. I loved having them there.

I helped all the girls get dressed. I zipped every last top. Proud does not describe how I felt seeing my work for such a HUGE event.

Did I mention that The Magic City Classic is THE NUMBER 1 HBCU CLASSIC IN THE COUNTRY? NO? Oh, well there you go lol.

We even took a few selfies before the half-time show.
