70’s Inspired Dress

1970's Inspired Dress

70’s Inspired Dress

If you are into fashion at ALL you know that Fall 2015 will be a huge revival of the 1970’s. I figured why not make myself a 70’s Inspired Dress now.

My FAVORITE Fashion Era is between 1950 to LATE 1970’s.  I love how the women dressed.

Vogue Paris Original

I fell in LOVE with this Pierre Balmain Design.  I went though this vintage pattern phase last year and I got some great pieces. This is one of them.

I was fabric shopping with my client and she saw this fabric first. She has a good eye because I absolutely LOVE it. We both got some lol.

The wind was SUPER high so it made picture taking difficult lol.

I was trying to shield my hair in the first picture, second picture I was trying to fix it back, last picture I just gave up lol.

End result of that session lol. I love the sleeves and the tie neck of this dress.

I kept my accessories very simple. I decided against a necklace and pulled out a pair of statement earrings, very simple bangle and a gold belt. My shoes I’ve had a while and  were perfect with this.

1970's Inspired DressWinter white coat and purse completed the look.

For those of you who sew, here is a review:

Vogue 1857

Pattern Description:  Blouson dress, four inches below mid-knee or evening length, with bodice front gathered into self-lined from yoke and front and back gathered into waistline seam, has loose-fitting bodice, deep shaped neckline, bias folder collar with extending tie ends, straight skirt with front princess seaming (evening length has center back hemline slit), pockets in side front seams and full-length sleeves slighter gathered at cap and gathered into buttoned cuffs. Purchased belt.

Pattern Sizing: 14

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

YES!
Were the instructions easy to follow? These directions were amazing. One thing I LOVE about vintage patterns is how thorough the directions are. The newer vogue patterns assume you know things, these patterns do not. I love it.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Love everything about this pattern.

Fabric Used: Metallic ITY

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made a muslin first and I had to remove an inch from each seam because it was TOO  blousy on me. I didn’t add the buttoned cuffs. Since my fabric was very stretchy, I did add a knit interfacing but I made the cuffs smaller so they would be a little tighter around my wrist.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? YES!!! I’m making this again in a solid. I LOVE this pattern.

Conclusion: GREAT pattern if you can get your hands on it.

Thank you! A couple of days. I’m working on hers. It’s a different dress though.
