3 Tips for Running a Successful Business
Hey guys! I want to talk about 3 Tips for Running a Successful Business.
Listen. Having your own business is HARD and let me be honest and say that being a BLACK woman and having my own business is EXTRA HARD. Let me tell you why…
First of all (and I know some of you may not agree, but I’m going to share what has been MY experience) there’s a handful of black business owners that just don’t do right. AT ALL. Don’t open on time, close early, but worst of all NOT professional. **HARD EYE ROLL** If you have ever had an experience with them it makes it hard for people like ME. Now if you KNOW me you KNOW I don’t run my business that way but if you DON’T know me you won’t know that.
I’ve had people say, “I always want to work with black business owners but it’s not worth the headache.” I NEVER want that to be said about me and my business.
Here are a few reviews that my clients have left on my Facebook Page
Is this a bragging moment? POSSIBLY lol. But when God gives you something HE SHOWS YOU HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT. I take pride in all that I do. Now, have I made mistakes, dropped the ball and low-key failed? ABSOLUTELY, but I take responsibility for the mistakes I’ve made and learn from them.
Let me stop right now and recommend The Little Black Book of Success. There are SO many gems in this book. Pick it up. Seriously.
Now let’s dig into the 3 Tips for Running a Successful Business.
-
Deliver when you say you are doing to deliver. I post on my blog Tuesday Thursday Friday and sometimes Sunday. That’s my word so that’s when I’ll deliver. Period. When I give my clients dates for their items to be ready I make sure to deliver. Recently I had some issues where I had an entire CRATE of items that were lost. Talk about upset. I let ALL my clients know what was going on and I literally had to remake each and every item. One of those items was a prom dress. My word was out. I made it happen. That meant SEVERAL nights of me working from home and NO SLEEP. I delivered.
- Don’t overbook yourself. It can be hard to turn down jobs when you are running your own business but learn that all money isn’t good money and it’s better to turn down work than accept it and be over booked.

All collaborations are not created equal. These days it’s ALL about collaborating. You can’t partner up with someone who will have you behind on all your deadlines. If you need to do a post on May 15th and its May 13th and you STILL don’t have the items you need that may not be a collaboration that will work. Make sure those that you are working with know about your deadlines AHEAD of time.
BONUS: GET ORGANIZED. LISTEN, this could have easily been number 1. NOTHING runs well if you are un-organized. Take some time and get organized first. It will not only benefit you but it will benefit your client/customer.
What are some tips you have for running a successful business? There are SEVERAL more I could have added but let’s talk about it in the comments.
See you tomorrow!

I don’t own a business yet :), but I would have to add staying in your own lane. I think some may want to do it all, instead of doing what they truly love and strong at. Not saying never to grow, but if you’re just now comfortable with sewing skirts…why tell a bride you can make her gown?
Oh and comparing yourself to someone else. Never good in life general but especially if you want to have a successful business.
