Soul Food Sunday | Be Yourself

Happy Sunday!

I was talking with a friend the other day and it is amazing how often we compare ourselves to others. Now, everyone may not do this. But there have been times when “I” have compared myself to others wondering why were they doing this or doing that and “I” wasn’t.

Easy. They aren’t me and I’m not them.

I haven’t always been the strongest or the most confident. There are even times now when I will have insecure moments, but they soon pass.

I’ve learned that the KEY to being happy is to just be yourself. It can be hard not to watch what others are doing. If you are doing that  jealousy will soon set in.  But how many of you have heard that saying, “Everything that glitters ain’t gold”? Just because it LOOKS like someone has it ALL together or just because it LOOKS like someone has all the things YOU want does NOT mean they are happy. You also don’t know what they did to obtain those things.

I am no longer willing to give up my peace and happiness by comparing myself to others or trying to be someone I’m not. I am Adrienne. That’s who I WANT to be. That’s who God made me to be.

Besides, the blessings He has for me are FOR ME. There is no need to be jealous or envious of anyone else. There is no reason to “hate” on anyone because there truly is enough to go around.

Let me encourage you today. If you find yourself looking at someone else wishing you were like them or wishing you had the things they had, just stop. You are blocking your own blessings by looking at someone else.
